Funker Vogt – Final Construct

Knapp drei Jahre war es still um die selbsternannten Söldner von Funker Vogt. Nach dem Ausscheiden von Chris L. im Sommer 2021 hat man zunächst eine einjährige Schaffenspause eingelegt, bevor Gerrit Thomas und René Dornbusch den Sänger und Shouter Bastian Polak zum vollständigen Trio rekrutieren konnten. Ein Jahr lang haben sie an dem neuen Album „Final Construct“ und deren Vorab-Single „Death Seed“ gearbeitet, um im Frühjahr 2024 erneut ein Comeback zu feiern.

Das neue Werk „Final Construct“ erscheint am 03.05.2024 in drei Versionen: Zum einen im qualitativ hochwertigen Digipak als Doppel-CD inkl. 15 Songs und vier hauseigenen Remixen. Außerdem als Schallplatte in farbigem Vinyl und als Audiokassette – Beide mit jeweils einem exklusiven Song. Die digitale Variante des Albums gleicht der Doppel-CD.

Der „Neue“ am Mikro dürfte vielen bereits durch das Duo Intent:Outtake bekannt sein. Da Komponist und Produzent Gerrit Thomas bereits für diese Formation Gesangsaufnahmen sowie Mix & Master getätigt hat und man sich daher schon kennen und schätzen lernte, war es für einige Fans sicher keine große Überraschung, dass Bastian Polak für Funker Vogt angeheuert wurde. Die Band selbst sieht dieses Engagement als den größten musikalischen Schritt nach vorne in der nun 28jährigen Bandgeschichte und glaubt fest daran, dass dies die finale Besetzung ist, was sie mit dem Albumtitel unterstreicht.

Der Sound auf „Final Construct“ dürfte reichlich Epos mit sich bringen, da sich die Band stark auf das Songwriting konzentriert und den hymnischen Charakter mehr denn je in den Fokus gesetzt hat. Nahezu jeder der insgesamt 19 neu komponierten Titel hat den sogenannten Single-Charakter, sodass es sehr schwerfiel, die drei Vorab-Singles auszuwählen. Diese sind das eingangs erwähnte „Death Seed“, welches als 5-Track-Digifile bereits Ende Februar erschienen ist, und die beiden digitalen Vorabveröffentlichungen „Blessed or Cursed“ und „The Signaller (Club Mix)“ als Instant Grats.

Herr Polak beweist auf allen Songs dieses Albums und dessen Bonus-Tracks durchweg, dass er der Richtige für Funker Vogt ist und lässt keine Wünsche offen, was Flexibilität in Stimmlage, Aggressivität und Melodie betrifft. So hatte man auch keine Scheu vor dem sehr epischen Stück „Im Auge des Orkans“ im ¾-Takt, welches als Outro des Doppel-Albums angeordnet und wohl als der einzig echte Ausbrecher wahrzunehmen ist. Alle anderen Songs weisen den typischen, aggressiven, aber stets melodiösen Industrial-Dance-Beat auf, den man von den Funkern kennen und lieben gelernt hat.

Inhaltlich geht es grob um die ständigen Veränderungen in unserer Gesellschaft. Texter Bastian Polak hierzu: „Man kann einfach nicht mehr still sein, wenn man sich all das Elend auf der Welt anschaut und man könnte meinen, wir würden den Krieg verherrlichen, aber genau das Gegenteil ist der Fall. Wir halten Euch den Spiegel vor, erzählen Euch vom Leid, dem Tod, aber auch von Zusammenhalt und Mut. Jeder von uns kennt den Weg, der all diese Probleme auf einen Schlag lösen würde: Frieden und Zusammenhalt. Leider ist die menschliche Art aber noch nicht dazu bereit. Zusammen können wir etwas bewegen, denn Toleranz und Empathie zeigen uns den richtigen Weg. Wann lernen wir endlich aus unseren Fehlern?! Wann kommt endlich der Umbruch?!“

Mit diesen Sätzen trifft er direkt ins Schwarze der Seele von Funker Vogt, sodass Thomas und Dornbusch keine Zweifel daran hegen, dass Polak in das Gefüge passt wie die Kimme auf’s Korn.

Mit „Final Construct“ melden sich Funker Vogt in ihrer finalen Besetzung zurück. Also saugt es in Euch auf, schreit es in die Welt und begleitet sie auf dem Weg der Veränderung!

The self-proclaimed mercenaries of Funker Vogt have been quiet for almost three years. Following the departure of Chris L. in summer 2021, the band took a one-year break before Gerrit Thomas and René Dornbusch were able to recruit singer and shouter Bastian Polak to form the full trio. They spent a year working on the new album "Final Construct" and its pre-release single "Death Seed" before celebrating another comeback in spring 2024.

The new work "Final Construct" will be released on 03.05.2024 in three versions: Firstly in a high-quality digipak as a double CD including 15 songs and four in-house remixes. Also as a record in colored vinyl and as an audio cassette - both with one exclusive song each. The digital version of the album is the same as the double CD.

The "new guy" on the mic is probably already known to many through the duo Intent:Outtake. Since composer and producer Gerrit Thomas has already recorded vocals and mixed & mastered for this formation and they have therefore already gotten to know and appreciate each other, it was certainly no great surprise for the fans that Bastian Polak was hired for Funker Vogt. The band itself sees this engagement as the biggest musical step forward in the band´s 28-year history and firmly believes that this is the final line-up, which is underlined by the album title.

The sound on "Final Construct" should bring plenty of epicness, as the band has focused heavily on songwriting and emphasized the anthemic character more than ever. Almost every one of the 19 newly composed tracks has the so-called single character, so it was very difficult to choose the three pre-release singles. These are the aforementioned "Death Seed", which was released as a 5-track digifile at the end of February, and the two digital pre-releases "Blessed or Cursed" and "The Signaller (Club Mix)" as instant grats.

On all the songs on this album and its bonus tracks, Mr. Polak consistently proves that he is the right man for Funker Vogt and leaves nothing to be desired in terms of flexibility in vocal range, aggressiveness and melody. There was no shying away from the very epic track "Im Auge des Orkans" in ¾ time, which is arranged as the outro of the double album and is probably the only real breakout. All the other songs feature the typical, aggressive but always melodic industrial dance beat that we have come to know and love from the Funkers.

In terms of content, it is roughly about the constant changes in our society. Lyrics writer Bastian Polak comments: "You just can´t keep quiet when you look at all the misery in the world and you might think we´re glorifying war, but the exact opposite is the case. We hold up a mirror to you and tell you about suffering and death, but also about solidarity and courage. Each of us knows the way that would solve all these problems in one fell swoop: Peace and cohesion. Unfortunately, the human species is not yet ready for this. Together we can make a difference, because tolerance and empathy show us the right way. When will we finally learn from our mistakes? When will the change finally come?"

With these sentences, he hits the bull´s eye of Funker Vogt´s soul, so that Thomas and Dornbusch have no doubt that Polak fits into the structure like the rear sight on the grain.

With "Final Construct", Funker Vogt are back with their final line-up. So soak it up, shout it out into the world and join them on the road to change!
